About the resource

This e-learning provides support to develop strong, positive relationships with children and young people by offering practical guidance on how our interactions can influence children’s development as well as their mental and physical health.

Over three weeks, you will explore the science of language and child development, learn to recognise harmful communication patterns, and practise positive techniques for responding constructively.

This e-learning is for parents, carers and all adults who regularly interact with children and young people. It encourages reflection on how the way we frame conversations and the small, everyday interactions we have can have a lasting impact.

It also provides practical tips for building trust, strengthening relationships and boosting children’s self-esteem.

Learning outcomes:

  • Describe how words can impact a child’s mental and physical health, and emotional wellbeing and development

  • Identify how harmful language can impact children

  • Recognise the signs that a child may be experiencing verbal abuse by adults
