This short guide looks at how to report and record instances of bullying to ensure an effective whole-school approach to anti-bullying.

It covers how students report bullying, how to encourage them to report bullying and what steps staff should take when students report bullying.

There is an emphasis on considering access needs for all students, including those with SEND, those without electronic devices and those with English as an additional language.

The guide explains how to best use data to understand bullying in an education setting and recommends a systematic way to record instances of bullying.

It includes a detailed checklist to help capture the right data and improve record keeping, understanding of incidents and improve an anti-bullying strategy.

Using this resource

This resource is designed for:

  • use by mental health leads working with students aged 5 to 19.
  • use by staff working in primary schools, secondary schools and colleges (sixth form and FE).
